Website for the Florida Public Library, 4 Cohen Circle Florida, NY 10921, (845) 651-7659. The Florida Public Library is the community center for personal growth. They support learning for all residents of the Florida Union Free School District of Orange County, New York, by providing library materials, information, technology, and programs for education, enrichment and entertainment.
This wonderful library is a member of the Ramapo Catskill Library System. They have great resources including books, CDs, music, magazines and more. They also have special events for people of all ages, from bookclubs, to storytelling, to computer classes to knitting classes. It’s a vital part of the Florida community, staffed by talented, patient and incredibly dedicated people.
This is their first website, and it packs a solid punch! Looking at other library sites, we came up with a schematic that included all the details they needed, but found a way to present the volume of information in a way that does not overwhelm. We all wanted the site to have lots of useful information, but to be inviting for people of all ages, as well. The site needed to be colorful and fun, but also contain a lot of solid information. It also had to be easy to navigate, compliant and adaptable to change. Relying on numerous “hide/show” toggles, we were able to pack in lots of text, while keeping the screen size reasonably small. We all agreed we hate to do a lot of scrolling!
This is a WordPress site, so the staff is now learning to make the changes they need, including updates to the Calendar and online program registration plug in, adding new photos to the gallery, changing book reviews, adding new text and more.
On the site, you’ll find a calendar of events, a photo gallery, links to great online catalogs and resources, special pages of interest to Kids, Teens and Tweens, links to all social media, all Florida Public Library forms and policy statements, a convenient-direct-to-the-library-calatog-login and so much more.
We at DevineDesign are so impressed with the staff at the Library. Working with them was a real pleasure.
They hosted a website launch party recently, when the former Mayor “flipped the switch” at a public gathering to formally inaugurate the website. How adorable is that!??!
